Item Description

Mining began at Mine Hill in 1732, initially for silver and later for iron. Reports on the locality go back to 1831. Splendent, striated, curved, brass-yellow pyrite pyritohedrons to 2.5 cm are scattered on both sides of the quartz and siderite matrix. Fine, old-time material from this classic and long-closed Connecticut locale. Ex Karl Vossbrinck and Robert Whitmore Collections.
