Item Description

This is pyrite ps. marcasite from what I believe is the northernmost-producing specimen mine. It is within the Arctic Circle and the mine engineers I used to buy these from had them sent out by helicopter in the late 80s and early 90s. No more. I have not heard of anything recently to market from here. They are AMAZINGLY BRIGHT AND LUSTROUS in person, with sharp crystallization and broad lustrous edges quite unlike the similar material from other carbonate replacement deposits such as Santa Eulalia and Dalnegorsk, where the pyrite looks sugary but not so metallic and lustrous. The rows of crystals and the striking loop make for a show worthy specimen. This is, really, a superb piece...hard to convey in photos! Ex Harold Urish Collection # 207. Valued $400-500
