Item Description

Here we have an incredibly hard to find Pyrite specimen from Hannibal, Missouri, which lies on the Mississippi River in northeast Missouri. This town might be best known as the childhood home of writer Mark Twain, but there are several limestones quarries in the area, where rock has been quarried for decades. This piece is an attractive specimen featuring tightly intergrown cubes of soft golden metallic Pyrite, sitting atop a semi-spherical concretion of sparkling Pyrite matrix. No major damage that I can find, and the piece is nearly a "floater", save one small point of attachment on the side. A cool locality specimen for any fan of Midwest minerals or worldwide Pyrites.
