Item Description

Pyrite specimens from the large Climax Mine near the summit of Fremont Pass in Central Colorado are seldom seen in today's market, but this mine was one of the most important localities for Pyrite in the entire state, as it produced some large and impressive piece. The Climax Mine is actually a molybdenum mine with a very large open pit and some underground tunnels, which produced a good mixture of minerals including attractive Rhodochrosites, Fluorites and Pyrites. This specimen is a large, hefty, sharp, lustrous, golden metallic cubes of Pyrite associated with minor soft purple colored Fluorite on one side. The piece is not damage-free, like virtually all Climax Pyrites, as there are small chips along the front edges, and the back is contacted, but it's still an impactful big display piece from this classic Colorado locality ! The piece comes from the collection of Lee B. Burnett of Morisson, Colorado.
