Item Description

Dozens of small (less than 1 mm), sharp, rich yellow color, trigonal crystals of Pyroaurite on matrix from the famous Sterling Mine in New Jersey. The species gets is name from the Greek for "fire" and "gold" in allusion to the golden-yellow color assumed on heating at relatively low temperatures. It is the Iron analogue of Desautelsite and may originate as an alteration product of Iowaite.
