Item Description

A striking, stout 4.7 cm bundle of very sharply terminated splendent dark metallic pyrolusite blades dominates this sculptural and aesthetic small cabinet. The blades have a slight iridescent sheen, that adds character. Scattered patches of contrasting drusy quartz are a nice accent to the jackstraw crystal bundles. This find piece is from the extinct Taylor Mine, an obscure, small open-pit iron mine and nearby prospects noted for fine pyrolusite specimens. Ex Kay Robertson Collection. Kay was a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017). She passed away in 2020 and lived nearly 100 years. Valued at $500.
