Item Description

Vivid yellow-green, juicy, translucent hexagonal pyromorphite barrels, to 8 mm, cover all sides of this very rich, showy and hefty specimen from the well-known Mexico Mine at Caldbeck. Definitely old-time quality comparable to the 1800s heydays, but comes from a collecting effort by well-known English dealer, Richard Barstow, in the mid-1970s. The surface vein exposure is also known as "Barstow's Trench". The original Mexico Mine closed in 1868. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 10037 and acquired from English dealer Brian Lloyd in May, 1983. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017). Classic, excellent and rich Caldbeck Fells pyromorphite.
