Item Description

Pyromorphite is a rare species from Canada. Easily the best examples of the species come from the Society Girl Mine, a small lead-zinc deposit worked in the early 1900s. Most of the fine specimens were collected from the dumps in the 1960s and 70s. This is a showy and classic thumbnail cluster of intergrown lustrous and translucent olive-green prisms. The hoppered termination and slight curvature of the piece are desirable accents. Complete all-around. Part of the termination is bruised, but this remains an excellent and highly representative example of the species and locale. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 9826. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record).
