Item Description

The Bunker Hill Mine is a famous lead-zinc-silver producer that was the source of some of the finest Pyromorphite specimens ever found in the Western Hemisphere. The mine operated for a century (closing forever in 1988), and fine quality specimens such as this one are difficult to obtain on the market, especially 40 years after it came out of the ground. This piece is a beautiful and brightly colored cluster of lustrous yellow to orange cored botryoids of Pyromorphite measuring up to 5 mm across. The luster is rather high and each "sphere" looks almost wet, which amplifies the color! No damage and very eye-catching! A beautiful piece of this classic material, and a great small cabinet display to add to your collection! Priced at $3,800 in the inventory. For a time this orange-yellow material was labeled as Polysphaerite / Phosphohedyphane, which was calcium-rich Pyromorphite, but today Phosphohedyphane is its own species, and defined as the calcium analogue of Pyromorphite.
