Item Description

Years ago, a fiend told me that the Wheatley Mine(s) were Tsumeb before Tsumeb existed. The beautiful crystallized secondary ore minerals were rarely seen outside of this locality by most collectors of the time (the mine started in the 1850s). With that said, the most iconic species to come from Wheatley is the classic green Pyromorphites. This piece features fine quality, sharp, lustrous, prismatic, rich green color hexagonal crystals covering nearly the entire display side of this classic large miniture specimen. No damage that I can see with the naked eye, and certainly not common on the market now. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#1617). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
