Item Description

A superb thumbnail specimen from the Barstow's Trench locality at Roughton Gill, which was worked in the 1970s. According to the entry on mindat.org, the locality lies, "between the Mexico Mines and Clints Gill (an exposure of the Roughton Gill South vein a little to the west of the Mexico Mine High Level. Although the exposure is also known as the 'Mexico Mine open-cut'". This piece is certainly one of the finest examples in this size range that we've seen from the locality. It features a sculptural, three-dimensional group of sharp, well-formed, beautiful chartreuse-green colored, "hoppered"/skeletal hexagonal crystals measuring up to 1.0 cm long, free of matrix. There are slight tones of golden and yellow in the piece, creating a very pleasing effect. The piece is in excellent condition, as it's nearly crystallized on all sides, making close to being a complete "floater". If you collect secondary ore minerals, Pyromorphite, thumbnails or specimens from the UK, don't miss out on this robust, three-dimensional and showy display piece from this fairly rare locality.
From the collection of Ralph Sutcliffe.
