Item Description

Classic and showy small cabinet combination material from the historic Wheatley Mines. Patches of pastachio-green hexagonal pyromorphite microcrystals and tiny acicular spindles are richly and aesthetically scattered on the subhedral oxide-tinted quartz matrix. Mining started in 1851 and the mines closed during the Civil War in the 1860s! Limited mining occurred from 1917 to 1920. See the 1989 Mineralogical Record article in Vol. 20, No. 5. This specimen probably dates to the 20th Century mining period Ex Chet Lemanski Collection and acquired in 2007. These are classic, highly desirable American pyromorphites and this is a highly representative example for the size.
