Item Description

RARE and rich green pyromorphite from this ancient district from where lead mining has been documented since 1314 (MINDAT)! The last mines closed in 1880. Lustrous oil-green prisms cover all sides of this solid old-time pyromorphite specimen. The striking blocky parallel-growth stepped crystal is 1.7 cm long and elongated crystals on another side reach a subtstantial 2.2 cm. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 8677 and acquired from French dealer Gilbert Gauthier at Tucson in 1979. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017). A very rare old green pyromorphite with excellent crystallization from this locale with an old label attached.
