Item Description

A sculptural and excellent combination specimen from the famous mines at Santa Eulalia. An impressive pseudo-hexagonal "tower" of striking densely layered lustrous brass-brown pyrrhotite prisms is aesthetically accompanied by a smaller perpendicular pyrrhotite and a starkly contrasting large multi-generational calcite and dolomite rhomb. The basal attachment reveals a translucent, bone-white calcite rhomb. Most of the rhomb is covered with bright waxy luster, sugary dolomite with the outer face having a nifty secondary overgrowth of tiny dog-tooth scalenohedrons. The large pyrrhotite is complete all-around and pristine. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 10442 and acquired from the Lidstrom's in July, 1984. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017). Classic pyrrhotite and a fine combination piece from the 1960s-70s finds. Santa Eulalia and Dal'negorsk pieces are the world's finest and this is an excellent combination.
