Item Description

The Little Giant Basin in San Juan County has produced some very attractive Quartz specimens over the years. They are especially desirable for collectors due to the fact that they form in interesting habit, no just your typical hexagonal prisms. This piece is an excellent small cabinet featuring several sharp, lustrous, gemmy, prismatic crystals measuring up to 4.0 cm long very minor matrix. Some of the crystals show slight skeletal "Fenster" habit faces on the terminations and the prisms, and one of the secondary crystals features a rarely seen tapered "reverse scepter" habit. You can see that in areas, the crystal are quite gemmy (closer to the terminations). The color of the crystals is a very soft Amethystine / Smoky mix on the upper portions, and more of a white milky hue as the base. The piece is in very good shape, save a few secondary crystals which are contacted. A great example of the type of specimens that can be found in the Little Giant Basin. From the collection of Gary Weaver of Prescott, Arizona (1944-2019). Gary was an electrical engineer who worked for many years for Hughes Aircraft in California.
