Item Description

A cool old time specimen from an unknown locality in Lincoln County, North Carolina. A stout, very sharp, lustrous, gemmy, colorless, doubly-terminated bipyramidal crystal with minor iron(?) inclusions. The most interesting aspect of the piece is the fact that it resembles a "Herkimer Diamond" from New York. It's not 100% damage free, but it's an old piece, and still very good condition on the display side. This specimen comes from the collection of Willard W. Wulff (1904-1998) of Colorado Springs, Colorado, a prominent figure and collector of Colorado minerals. Wulff was one of the founding members of the Colorado Springs Mineralogical Society in 1936. You can read Willard's bio on the Mineralogical Record website here ( http://www.minrec.org/labels.asp?colid=1528 ). The piece comes with a typed 3x5 index card label from Wulff that states the piece was part of the personal collection of Lazard Cahn, who was also one of the founding members of the CSMS. A wonderfully historic and eye-catching specimen of this well known old time material that dates back at least 70 years.
