Quartz (excellent reverse scepter and scepter habit crystals) on Calcite

From a distance, you wouldn't think much of this specimen as it's simply Quartz on Calcite. But when you look closely, a completely new world opens up, filled with WATER CLEAR, jewel-like prisms of Quartz featuring gorgeous scepter and reverse scepter habits! These Quartz crystals are not only dazzling from a morphological perspective, but they are superb quality with razor-sharp faces and brilliant luster! Several of the are actually doubly-terminated, some showing only a single scepter or reverse scepter on one end, while others have traditional un-sceptered terminations. The matrix comprises a mound of crystallized Calcite of a chocolate-brown color. The Calcites are just as lustrous and sharp as the Quartz crystals, which allows the piece to sparkle even in middling light. I had a blast looking at this piece with a loupe, and we've photographed it with a Canon MP-E 65 mm macro lens to better illustrate the quality. The label accompanying this piece states that it's from a place called "Diente de Perro" (Dog's Tooth), but I can't find a listing for this area in any of the major mineralogical databases. If you're a fan of Mexican minerals, worldwide Quartz or if you just love unique and interesting crystallization, do NOT pass this one up, as I can't remember seeing another like it!
