Item Description

Quartz may be a common species, but it is incredibly popular among collectors due to the large amount of varieties, habits and colors in which it is found. If you're a fan of Alpine minerals, then you're alsmot certainly familiar with the famous and distinctive "Faden" crystal groups. The word "Faden" (German word for string) is used for these piece as they show narrow "string"-like inclusions, which some say are tiny needles of some kind of Amphibole species, while other say they are scars from the crystals being pulled apart and healing internally during tectontic activity. The piece exhibits a very striking "Faden" that runs through the length of the superb, razor sharp, highly lustrous, colorless, GEM quality, thick, stout colorless crystal creating this beautiful display specimen. The main Quartz prism is doubly-terminated, and highly compresses along the {0100} axis showing overly developed rhombic pyramidal faces with very little in the way of prism faces. There are several secondary accenting Quartz crystals on the piece, making it a bit more three-dimensional, but there is a bit of damage, so it's not 100% pristine. The overall quality of the crystals on the Quartz is outstanding and nearly as lustrous and gemmy as any I've seen from this area. It would rival many superb true Alpine "Fadens" for size, quality and displayability. Priced in the inventory at $650.
