Item Description

This is not what one would expect from the Motherlode Gold Country in California, as we rarely see any good pieces of crystallized Quartz from this area. That's not to say the material is unknown to collectors, as it was written up in the Mineralogical Record (Vol. 31, No. 4, pgs 345-348). This piece is a supreme optic grade crystal of WATER CLEAR colorless Quartz from the Georgetown District which is partially coated by small off-white colored rhombs of Calcite. The only damage I can see is at the base of the crystal where it was detached from the pocket wall. A really interesting and fine quality specimen for any fan of minerals of California, Quartz or worldwide gem crystals.
