Item Description

Green hedenbergite-included quartz "prases" richly accented with sharp hemaite "iron roses" are EXTREMELY RARE from this old quarry, active since 1838! This impressive, old-time large specimen is covered with sharp, lustrous, translucent prases, to about 1.3 cm. Sharp, lustrous, platy, metallic iron roses, to 8 mm, are richly and dramatically scattered on the prases. The sculptural large matrix is composed solidly of sprays of hedenbergite lathes. Ex Kay Robertson Collection with no number and acquired from Scott Williams sometime in the 1990s. Her label was lost during the move. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017). A SUPERB, perhaps UNIQUE old large combination specimen from the historic Harz.
