Quartz included and with Hematite

This is really a pretty and admittedly atypical Quartz-Hematite piece from Jinlong Hill in China, a now-classic Chinese occurrence for this combination of species. This small cabinet specimen has stout, rather than slender, prismatic Quartz crystals associated with the typical Hematite clusters. The Quartz crystals are gorgeous with their very fine inclusions of Hematite imparting a sublime red-orange color to them and each one is fairly well isolated and range in size from 3 mm to 3.5 cm. Rosettes of shiny, black-brown, bladed Hematite crystals to over 1 cm are clustered between the Quartz crystals and provide great contrast! This is a really good combo specimen from this locale with nearly all of the Quartz points completely intact - only some contacting around the periphery. I have collected Chinese minerals seriously since 2002, loosely since the mid 1990s, and cannot recall seeing one that looks like this. It looks like a Brazil or Madagascar hematite included quartz, in a matrix of China hematite blades, very unlikely and 1 in 10,000 among what we have seen from this locality since the mid 1990s. It displays both horizontally and, leaning back, vertically. It glows with color in a showcase with lights unlike any other from here. A fantastic surprise from the depths of the large Hefendehl collection!
