Item Description

A fantastic example of the rare and beautiful pseudocubic Quartz crystals from the locality where famous "Herkimer Diamond" crystals have been found for many years. This piece is an absolutely WATER CLEAR, razor-sharp, lustrous, completely colorless single crystal that might appear to be a modified cube, but Quartz is hexagonal (in the case of this crystal the symmetry is actually trigonal), and you have to turn the crystal on an angle to align where the prism and pyramidal faces line up. Check out the following video for a better idea of where the termination actually lies on a crystal like this ( http://www.quartzpage.de/mv/cube_habit_1.mp4 ). With that said, this is one of if not the best example of this specific material that we've had to offer in the auctions. If you collect gem minerals, thumbnails, or if you're simply a fan of unique mineral morphology, don't pass this one up. From the collection of Shields Flynn.
