Item Description

A very attractive and bizarre Quartz specimen from an undisclosed locality near Llano, Texas. This sharp, lustrous, gemmy, light golden-orange color, iron-included specimen has several interesting features. The first is the fact that it has a pronounced skeletal form featuring six "spokes" flaring out of each side of the piece (best viewed when looking directly down the "c" axis) creating a "star"-shape that is rarely seen in Quartz. Secondly, the piece is hollow undernearth, but it's actually complete crystallized, making it not only doubly-terminated, but a complete "floater" as there is no point of attachment. It's certainly strange and the fact that it's from Texas makes it all the more desirable for the odd locality. If you collect Quartz, minerals of the United States or even more specifically pieces from Texas, you can't miss out on this one. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#6158). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Velt" November-December 2017).
