Item Description

The Quartz specimens from Aouli are known for their deep, brick-red color caused by Hematite inclusions, similar to the specimens from Tinejdad, Morocco; Preubas Mountain, Spain; L'Argentolle, France or the Orange River in South Africa. On rare occasions you will find some of these Aouli specimens with a much lower concentration of Hematite, which creates an extremely attractive and delicate, soft-pink color. The color in this specimen is a faint pink hue, not quite the same as Rose Quartz, but distinctive to be sure. The piece is filled with dozens of sharp, well-formed hexagonal prisms (several of which are doubly-terminated) measuring up to 2.2 cm, free of matrix. The piece is very close to being a complete "floater" as it crystallized on all sides, with only tiny points of attachment. No major damage that I can find, and really pretty in person. An interesting and unique specimen of this lesser-seen material. Valued $950.
From the collection of Kurt Hefendehl (#427), a well-known German collector all over Europe with worldwide contacts to dealers and collectors. He started collecting seriously at the age of 14 and his great and varied worldwide collection reached over 6000 pieces. He was very active mineralogically until shortly before his passing in 2020 at the age of 82. Considering his collection had a large number of pieces, it still had an unusually high standard of quality from most worldwide localities. He particularly specialized in all classics as well as minerals of the Black Forest, where he spent much time collecting. His Black Forest and German subcollections went to his good friend Wolfgang Wendel. We at The Arkenstone have the privilege of offering the remainder of this great worldwide collection over the coming months and years through our various platforms.
