Quartz var: Amethyst, Smoky and Scepter (large specimen)

Here we have a tremendously, hefty Smoky Quartz and Amethyst specimen from a 2006 find in Hallelujah Junction area along the California-Nevada border. We obtained this specimen directly from the man who collected it. It actually has very good form and color, for any locality, but is especially attractive for a U.S. piece. This specimen consists of a large, sharp, lustrous, translucent, well formed, partially skeletal and partly sceptered, crystal group with defined smoky and purple "Amethyst" bicolor zoning. Some minor contacts around the specimen keep it from being a world-class specimen, but it's still notably large and impressive. The piece is NOT repaired, which is rare for specimens of this size. It is not complete on the back, but most people recognize this area as one of the premier Quartz producing regions in the United States today, so pieces this size are not terribly common, and becoming more desirable amongst collectors, thus the fact that it's not 100% complete is forgivable in my mind.
