Quartz var. Amethyst with Prehnite

Item Description

A very attractive and atypical Amethyst piece from Brandberg featuring several nice, divergent crystals enhanced by several small Prehnite groups. A half-dozen sharply terminated, transparent, zoned divergent Amethyst crystals are prominently displayed on an elongate sliver of gray matrix and vary in size from 1.5 to 5.3 cm in length and 0.5 to 1.1 cm across. The color zoning and phantoms within the crystals range from medium to pale purple and are distinct. They have a glassy luster with sharp faces and perfect points at the termination. The Amethysts are set on much smaller crystalline Quartz and the large crystals are embellished with beautifully contrasting pale green, translucent Prehnite crystals up to 1 cm. This specimen came from the Charlie Key collection to Marshall Sussman and was part of his Namibian Quartz suite, which Dr. Pohl bought entire in the early 2000s.
