Quartz var. Chalcedony with Dolomite on ore

Item Description

Following the advice of a knowledgeable customer and friend, we are changing the locality of this from Tsumeb to the Kalahari manganese field where numerous finds have produced Chalcedony of varying habits, but invariably in shades of light blue to white. It came to Erika Pohl through Marshall Sussman, in a collection he purchased in Namibia; later sold to me and then in part to Star Van Scriver. Billowing, delicate blue, translucent botryoids are handsomely arranged on this attractive small cabinet piece. The largest rounded pillow measures 3.2 cm across and is placed perfectly at the top of the piece and has several, small botryoids that cascade down the front and off to the sides very attractively dominate the piece. The Chalcedony is sprinkled in places with contrasting, snow-white Dolomite crystals. The beautiful blue Chalcedony contrasts nicely with a sparkling gray, granular metallic matrix. This is just a super attractive small cabinet piece.
