Item Description

There are many little localities in the Uncompahgre Mining District near the town of Ouray, Colorado that are locally well-known for producing superb crystallized Quartz specimens. This piece comes from the lesser-known Mother Cline Mine and features sharp, lustrous, well-formed, striated prisms of "Milky" Quartz forming a three-dimensional and showy specimen. The largest crystal measures 6.7 cm long. Most of the crystals are in good shape, but there are some contacted areas here and there, so the piece is not 100% pristine. It's still a very showy specimen and the rare locality makes it all the more desirable for any fan of worldwide Quartz specimens or a collector of Colorado minerals. Valued at $700. From the collection of Gary Weaver of Prescott, Arizona (1944-2019). Gary was an electrical engineer who worked for many years for Hughes Aircraft in California. After retiring to Prescott, Arizona in the early 2000s, Gary rekindled his childhood love of minerals, amassing a collection of roughly 2000 specimens focusing on localities in which he and his wife had lived or visited (Mexico, Peru and the western / southwestern United States). You can read Gary's obituary here https://www.dcourier.com/news/2019/apr/27/obituary-gary-richard-weaver/ The label accompanying the piece states that it was collected by Jasper and Anita Berensen.
