Item Description

An EXTREMELY RARE and striking 2.5 cm doubly terminated facet-like gem quartz crystal is dramatically set on sculptural matrix and is nicely accented with a smaller side car quartz. The crystals bears a strong resemblance to classic Herkimer quartz "diamonds" from New York. This piece came labeled as coming from Asbestos, and I don't know if it's specifically from the Jeffrey Mine, but I have to believe it's likely. The sharp, well-formed, prismatic hexagonal quartz crystal is included with white fibrous "asbestos family" inclusions (some kind of amphibole species, e.g., anthophyllite, tremolite or actinolite). Ex Charlie Key personal collection. Charlie is arguably the most successful dealer of the second half of the 20th century, along with being the namesake for two mineral species (keyite and ludlockite). Valued at $400 by the previous dealer for exceptional rarity, unique quality and provenance.
