Quartz with Hematite on Calcite (fluorescent)

Aouli Quartz specimens are known for their deep, brick-red color that is derived from Hematite inclusions, akin in many ways to the well-known Orange River Quartz specimens. On rare occasions you will find some of these Aouli specimens with a much lower concentration of Hematite, which creates an extremely attractive and delicate, soft-pink color. On first glance, you would almost think this was Rose Quartz. The Quartz crystals completely coat the massive Quartz below, creating an engaging, undulating, three-dimensional look. The white, pseudocubic Calcite, which has a pinkish-orange fluorescence, adds a great deal to the mineral interest and visual appeal. Although there is some contacting on the Quartz and the Calcite, the aesthetics of this small cabinet combination piece are quite good. A very old specimen, and a rarely seen quartz style.
