Item Description

Some of the most iconic Rutile / Hematite specimens in the world are those from Novo Horizonte. This piece is a cool example of the from and old time discovery featuring golden Rutile "needles" and minor metallic silvery Hematite included in slightly smoky Quartz crystals and partical crystal sections. It's a cool display specimen, and absolutely transparent in the main crystals center, creating a perfect window to view the lovely iron and titanium oxides respectively. It's not 100% damage free, but still beautiful and this piece is NOT from contemporary mining, but easily dates back around 40 years. This piece comes from the collection of Willard W. Wulff (1904-1998) of Colorado Springs, Colorado, a prominent figure and collector of Colorado minerals. Wulff was one of the founding members of the Colorado Springs Mineralogical Society in 1936. You can read Willard's bio on the Mineralogical Record website here ( http://www.minrec.org/labels.asp?colid=1528 ). The specimen come with one of his classic typed labels on the bottom of "Perky" box.
