Item Description

An unusual piece of the so-called "Rainbow" Hematite from the Andrade Mine. I'm told that the iridescent flashes of color are not caused by oxidation, but rather micro phosphates possibly aluminum which have been deposited on the surface in a thin layer. Plenty of blues, greens, pinks, yellow and golden tones can be seen when the piece is rotated in the light. Difficult to illustrate in the photos, better in person. A really attractive specimen of this rarely seen material.
