Rakovanite (extremely rare)

Item Description

Rakovanite is an extremely rare hydrated sodium vanadate mineral (with essentially ammonium) named in honor of Professor John Rakovan, formerly of the University of Miami, Ohio, and now at the New Mexico Institute of Mining & Technology. The mineral was named in 2010, and has only been found in FOUR localities in the world. This piece is the ONLY specimen we've ever had to offer, and it just happened to be from one of the two co-type localities for the mineral, the Sunday Mine in the uranium/vanadium producing Slick Rock District of Colorado, west of Telluride, near the Utah border. This piece features a coverage of micro orange-yellow Rakovanite on matrix, which we have photographed with a Canon MP-E 65 mm macro lens to better illustrate the quality.
