Item Description
Wonderful gemmy, tabular realgar crystal from the 1990s finds at the famous Jiepaiyu Mine, Shimen. The sharp wedge terminated, lustrous crystal with striated prism faces has classic rich red color, that GLOWS cherry-red, when backlit. Complete all-around and essentially pristine, two small crystals attached to the backside near the base have broken terminations and are out-of-sight in the frontal display view. This ancient deposit has been worked for 1500 years (MINDAT) and has arguably produced the world's finest realgar specimens along with the Baia Sprie Mine in Romania. Jiepaiyu Mine realgars are potentially light sensitive and should be kept in a box. A very fine gemmy miniature example from this world-classic deposit. This was found in the 1990s and since then has been in the collection of Dr. Steve Smale of San Francisco.
