Item Description

The Uchuccchacua Mine in Peru has given collectors some iconic Rhodochrosite specimens over the years, typically showing scalenohedral / "dogtooth" habit crystals, similar to those from South Africa . This piece is from an older find and features many fine, sharp, lustrous, gemmy, intense reddish colored scalenohedral crystals measuring up to 3 mm on dark manganese oxide matrix. A small Quartz crystal on the side of the piece makes for a nice accent. The vast majority of the Rhodos are damage free, and they are best viewed under magnification. A very cool specimen, typically of the locality, and it would nice a great addition to any worldwide Rhodochrosite suite or a collection of South American / Peruvian minerals.
