Item Description

Rhodochrosite is a very popular mineral, probably best known from localities like the Sweet Home Mine in Colorado, or the N'Chwaning Mines in South Africa, but there is a huge quantity of Rhodochrosite that comes out of the Capillitas District in Argentina every year. The vast majority of the Rhodo from Argentina isn't terribly well-crystallized or gem quality, but it does have great color and beautiful banding patterns when its cut and polished. This particular stone is a wonderful reddish-pink, white and silvery "Donut Cabochon" cut gem with good translucency, and excellent banding showing how it grew in stalactitic formations. An attractive stone of this classic material.
