Item Description

Rhodochrosite is one of the most beloved and desirable minerals in the world, and is certainly thanks to the specimens from the famous Sweet Home Mine in Colorado. The best of these specimens are simply the most attractive, finest quality and awe-inspiring examples of a species that is literally found in thousands of localities around the world. These specimens are not only in high demand, but they are even more sought after since the Sweet Home Mine is completely closed / reclaimed (though the nearby Detroit City Mine is currently active and has produced Rhodochrosite specimens). This small cabinet sized piece features a crystallized ridge consisting of sharp, translucent, strong pinkish-red rhombs of Rhodochrosite measuring up to 6 mm sitting on Quartz and sulfides (Pyrite, Sphalerite, Galena, etc.) matrix. Some of the crystals are contacted, but it's still a fairly good overall specimen of this iconic material.
