Item Description

The Rhodochrosite specimens from Ushkatyn are among the most distinctive and recognizable examples of the species from any world locality. The attractive bubbly / botryoidal form along with the alluring saturated almost carmine red color is quite different from a lot of other Rhodochrosites around the world. I think the closest comparison for this material is the famous Rhodos from the Oppu Mine in Japan. This piece features a coverage of attractive spherical Rhodochrosite with that beautiful alizarin color and wonderful translucency when backlit on matrix. I love the "waxy" / vitreous luster of the Rhodos, which allow each individual ball to distinguish themselves from others. The central portion of the Rhodo group is undamaged, though the periphery is contacted where it was removed from the pocket wall. If you're a fan of Rhodochrosite, do not miss out on picking up one of these rarely seen specimens that came out in the early 1990s and haven't been found since. Valued at $950 in the inventory.
