Item Description
Classic old-time Japanese rhodochrosite from the Oppu Mine. Pretty rose-red, translucent, waxy luster, bubbly botryoids with a hint of oxide coating cover the sculptural triangular miniature plate. Oppu Mine rhodochrosite is the most important and classic Japanese locale for the species, long after its closing in 1979. This historic and ancient mine has been worked for silver, copper, lead, zinc and cadmium and finally for banded rhodochrosite since the late 1600s (MINDAT). Rhodochrosite of this quality from here dates from before World War II to over 100 years ago! Choice old-time material.
