Item Description

A adorable thumbnail "rose" of intergrown, sharp, lustrous, frosted rose-red rhodochrosite rhombs from the the Sunnyside Mine. The rich and attractive peppering of tiny crystals appears to be frosted calcite rhombs. Calcite is rare from here. This cutie has mulitple display views. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 7031 and acquired from Bill Larson in August, 1973 at the San Francisco Show, while the mine was still active. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien-Welt" November-December 2017). A classic and potentially rare little San Juan rhodo combination.
