Item Description

When someone mentions Rhodochrosite, I think most of probably think about the world famous Sweet Home Mine, which for many years was the source of some of the finest Rhodochrosite crystals in the world. Specimens from the Sweet Home are not only beloved in the mineral world, but sought after on the market today. This fine quality miniature display specimen features several sharp, gemmy, rich red colored rhombs of Rhodochrosite measuring up to 1.7 at the widest dimension associated with minor sulfides and "needle" Quartz crystals on host rock matrix. If you look on the right side of the Rhodo crystals, you can see a few small white crystals, which are actually Fluorite cubes completely included with white Dickite clay. The piece is in great condition, and it should be noted that while the underside of the front-most Rhodo along with the back of the top mot crystal might appear to be damaged, I looked closely and they are actually recrystallized ("re-healed") with tiny crystal faces that you can see clearly with a loupe. Sweet Home Rhodos will rank among the most recognized minerals in the world, and it's difficult to know if anything from the Detroit City Mine will approach the same size and quality as what was found in the Sweet Home, so pick these up while you can. It would make a very fine addition to any collection of Rhodochrosite, a Colorado suite or a collection of Sweet Home material. Priced at $4,000 in the inventory.
