Item Description

Of the various habits, styles and colors of Rhodochrosite from the N'Chwaning II Mine, the pink "spheres" are arguably the most attractive and sought after. This piece is a superb full-sized miniature features several excellent quality, very lustrous, sparkly bright pink "balls" of Rhodochrosite which have formed over a preexisting botryoidal / spherical mineral. The quality of the Rhodo crystals is excellent, but they are tiny so you need at least a loupe to view them up close. The tiny rhombs are actually curved, which reminds me more of "saddle"-shaped Dolomite or Siderite crytals, but with that gorgeous pink color. The largest botryoid is about 1.5 cmm across. From the 1980s finds. The piece shows a wonderful red fluorescence (likely due to Manganoan Calcite or Kutnohorite content ). Priced at $1,500 retail. From the worldwide Rhodochrosite collection of Dr. William S. Logan (Specimen #X36-5)
