Item Description

This is a rare style of Nchwaning rhodo I call "blast shield" style for the thick, rounded-up masses in which it has formed over an underlaying matrix of fibrous but massive rhodochrosite. The shimmering, translucent, cherry-red to dark cherry-red botryoids appear to be rounded rhombs, with most of the faces have densely intergrown, tiny scalenohedrons. The lower, rose-red portion of the front appears to be contacted, with no damage. This piece has superb color, with just a bit of bruising on the display face. Periphery wear is noted on the edges. Most of this style, from the early 1980s finds, tend to be flat plates, but this is very 3-dimensional. It comes with a custom-made and engraved lucite base valued at $100, for free.
