Item Description

Don't be fooled, this is not a Rhodochrosite from the Sweet Home Mine, it's an excellent thumbnail from the Wutong Mine in China. These contemporary crystals are some of the most iconic and eye-catching examples of the species in the world. They are not typically gemmy or necessarily red like the famous Sweet Home or South African crystals, as we often seen softer pink hues and more of a compressed tabular habit. When I first saw this piece, I was impressed both by the color and excellent form. This attractive rhombic group features a predominant crystal with a secondary smaller crystal at the base with associated silvery-grey Galena. It GLOWS with a vibrant pink-red color when backlit. The piece is complete all the way around - NONE of the sides are cleaved! Excellent condition all over, with textbook rhombic form, sharp faces, decent luster and wonderful color. You just don't see Rhodochrosite crystals like this from Wutong Mine, and all of these specimens seemed to have completely dried up from the market, so don't miss out on picking this one up for a great price. From the worldwide Rhodochrosite collection of Dr. William S. Logan (Specimen #X114-3) with a label from a previous dealer. Valued at $1,500 in the inventory.
