Item Description

A really fine and showy Rhodochrosite from the famous Manuelita Mine in Peru featuring excellent, very sharp, lustrous, textbook rhombohedra measuring up to 1.7 cm sitting on matrix. Many of the crystals on the front / display side of the piece are pristine and look beautiful up close. Naturally, the piece is contacted on the back where it was removed from the pocket wall, but it displays well in a way that you can show off all those perfect rhombs. The color is a saturated pink hue, darker and stronger than most I've seen from this mine. It's not "chalky" either as the crystals are almost a bit translucent and seem to reflect light and brilliance better than a lot of pieces I've seen from the Manuelita Mine. Several of the Rhodos feature incredibly smooth, well-formed faces, while other show beautiful stacked "hillocks" to give them three-dimensional depth. One of my favorites in this size range that we've had to offer from this historic locality. The piece dates back to the mid 1970s. Priced in the inventory at $3,250.
