Item Description

The famous Xanda Mine in Brazil is renowned for its world-class gem blue Topaz crystals are superb purple Hydroxylherderites, but in 2013 is amazingly produced a tiny pocket of GEMMY Rhodochrosite crystals. Granitic pegmatites are not known for their carbonate minerals, let alone gemmy red crystals of Rhodochrosite! This impressive full-sized miniature specimen is a large flattened rhomb with excellent internal gemminess and a lovely reddish color (it can shift from pinkish-red to orange-red depending upon the lighting), but the most impressive aspect is that it's complete "floater" with no point of attachment. It's nearly transparent in areas, but the nature of the crystal does not allow for the best photos. You have to see it in person to really apprecaite the quality. For anybody who collects Brazilian minerals or worldwide Rhodochrosites, this is a must have specimen as only a handful were found, and may never be seen again from this famous locality. Valued at $3,000 for quality and the rarity of its origin. From the worldwide Rhodochrosite collection of Dr. William S. Logan (Specimen #X135-5).
