Item Description
A classic Rhodochrosite specimen from arguably the most famous locality for the species. This piece is a sharp, gemmy, red-pink color rhombohedral group of Rhodochrosite. Now the piece is not 100% complete as it is rather thin in one direction where it was cleaved, but the color and gemminess are definitely noteworthy. The birefringence of the piece created a bit of fuzziness in the photos, which is not seen as much in person. These specimens have sky-rocketed in value since the mine closed, and the specimens from the Sweet Home are certainly among the finest quality Rhodochrosite crystals in the world. For those who don't know, Richard Kosnar mined the Sweet Home for a few years during the late 1970's and managed to collect some excellent Rhodo specimens. This piece is from one of the last pockets that Rich opened before he was done at the mine. Enjoy.
