Rhodochrosite (Old material)

Rhodochrosite from the historic old Sunnyside mines is one of the staples of any good Colorado or Rhodochrosite collection. In my opinion, this mine is only second to the famous Sweet Home in Colorado as far as the quality of the USA specimens are concerned. This superb miniature-sized specimen comprises a few very sharp, rich pink color Rhodochrosite rhombohedra with unusually good and even strawberry color. In fact, this LOOKS like Sweet Home mine quality, which is crazy for Sunnyside specimens...but we know it is from this smaller and older mine because of a secondary coating of small druzy pink rhodo on the back side, making this all the more important as a Colorado miniature. It is one of the most gemmy crystals I have seen from here, it is even facetable and perhaps worth more when cut into gems - although that would be a tragedy! EX: Jingnan (Tom) Zhang collection. Probably older material from the 1960s-early 1980s. Valued $1500-2000.
