Item Description

Specimens from this old, long extinct mine near Leadville are rare. Sparkly drusy quartz covers most of the rose-red rhodochrosite rhombs, that line the sculptural vug. Brassy pyrite is visible on all sides of the matrix. The village of Alicante was abandoned by 1888. Very rare and desirable old-time Colorado combination material, and also from the Paterson Museum collections at some time in the past. Pieces like this may not look as sexy as the modern Sweet Home Mine material, but there was a lot less of it, and today almost nobody owns a piece like this - let alone, documented and display-worthy as this one is. valued $1000-1500
