Item Description

There are hundreds of localities for Rhodochrosite around the world, but specimens from the historic and beloved Foote Mine in North Carolina are certainly some of the more desirable from any locality in the United States. This is one of the richest Rhodochrosites I've ever seen from the Foote Mine as it is LOADED with dozens upon dozens of beautiful, translucent, pinkish-orange scalenohedral or "rice grain"-shaped crystals measuring up to about 2 mm which are associated with micro sparkling Pyrite and a bit of oxidized iron sitting on host rock matrix. One rarely sees small cabinet sized specimens of this material on the market, but to have such an abundance of crystals like this is incredibly rare in my experience. If you collect worldwide Rhodochrosites or specifically minerals from the famous Foote Mine, do NOT miss out on this one, as they are incredibly rare to find on the market. From the personal "keeper" collection of Jack Eaker, a geologist at the mine whose collection was recently brought to market. Priced at $1,500 in the inventory.
